In this introductory lesson, Mario Salomone presents sustainability competencies, drawing from the document prepared by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, titled GreenComp: The European sustainability competence framework (the complete text of the document is attached to the lesson).
The JRC study identifies twelve key competencies, divided into four groups:
1) embodying sustainability values;
2) embracing complexity in sustainability;
3) envisioning sustainable futures;
4) acting for sustainability.
Mario Salomone’s lesson begins with this last point: action. In the second part of the lesson, the topic of sustainability competencies is revisited and explored in depth with references to complexity, the socio-technical transitions that have characterized human evolution, and the exponential acceleration of changes up to the current situation. Passing a verification test allows you to receive a certificate of participation.
