In this introductory lesson, Mario Salomone presents the competencies for sustainability, drawing inspiration from the document prepared by the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, titled GreenComp. European sustainability competence framework (the complete text of the document is attached to the lesson).
The JRC study identifies twelve key competencies, divided into four groups:
1) embodying sustainability values;
2) embracing complexity in sustainability;
3) envisioning sustainable futures;
4) acting for sustainability.
Mario Salomone’s lesson begins precisely from this last point: action.
In the second part of the lesson, the theme of sustainability competences is revisited and explored in depth, with references to complexity, the socio-technical transitions that have characterized human evolution, and the exponential acceleration of change leading up to the current situation. Passing the assessment test allows you to receive a certificate of participation.
