Pedagogy Lessons is the column of rivistaeco.it that deals with various educational topics to raise awareness on subjects concerning human beings in all their age groups. They are conversations by Tiziana Carena with pedagogist Luisa Piarulli, whose various interventions and reviews of her work have appeared in “.eco” (print and online edition).
There is a need for planetary pedagogy, capable of addressing global challenges, of recreating an “educational agora”, only in this way will it be possible to educate conscious and free generations, especially in the context of today’s technological development. The risks that social media, and new technologies in general, have on mental health are the theme of the monthly appointment of “Pedagogy lessons”.
“It is not a matter of eliminating irregular behavior but of eliminating the reasons that led the subject to assume that behavior and of considering especially the expressive function of the ‘latter: it is seen as the’ index of a particular and maladaptive way of perceiving oneself, the world, and oneself in the world” (Bertolini1)
There is a Need for Education, that is “Nourishment”
Let’s try a mental experiment. Let’s think of a train, the most elaborate, the most equipped, the fastest that claims to run on somewhat dismantled tracks, repaired and repaired but generally not very suitable for accommodating such a technologically advanced product. What happens? What dependencies can form? The train stops, it has no effectiveness, though perfect.
New technologies are like the train. People and particularly young people, are like the tracks; that is, without training, care, education, knowledge, they lose effectiveness no longer knowing which direction they are traveling. The problems connected to the distorted use of technologies and social networks that involve people of developmental age and not only are well known. Edgar Morin states that: “The Internet now provides a gigantic jumble of knowledge, rumors, beliefs of all kinds, a sort of wild school that surrounds the official school, where new generations go to inform and train themselves”2. And how can we disagree with him!
